New Years Nails: Blue with Silver Glitter Half Moons

I wanted to try a new look for New Years. To me, new years style means, dark shades and glitter glitter glitter. But because I usually wear an all-over glitter shade, I wanted something a little more detailed and special. I decided to adapt the Beauty Department’s New Years Nails article with some of my own style.

I’m not a big fan of black polish, especially since I’m so pale, so I used Wet and Wild Saved By the Blue, a gorgeous sapphire blue shade, as my base. Instead of doing the glitter tip fade from the Beauty Department, I did silver glitter half moons. To help my (terrible) fine motor skills, I bought a silver glitter polish with a thin brush: Sinful Colors Nail Art in Fashionista Silver.

Sparkly as usual.

After two coats of Saved by the Blue dried, I applied a thin line of the glitter along my cuticle. Then I faded it out into a crescent shape. Aim for a gradient of the glitter into the blue, which also means you don’t need to strive for “perfect” half moons. I love how unexpected this glitter looks, and against the blue it looks just like a crescent moon. Perfect for a holiday all about the mystery and glamor of nighttime.

I’m in LA for the Rose Bowl game tomorrow, so it will be a very celebratory 24 hours. Happy New Years! May 2013 bring more peace and fellowship to everyone.
