Want a Free Beauty Birthday Gift? Check out Sephora’s VIP Present This Year!

Free birthday gift
I didn’t spend a cent on this!

Do you like getting beauty presents for your birthday? In theory it’s great, but I really enjoy researching products and making sure my (too large) collection stays well-edited. This year I got a great free present waiting for me (and you!) at Sephora. Last year their gift was two mini samples of Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments, which are my favorite lip balms. I’ve been using them very sparingly so I don’t have to drop the big bucks on their large size.

But I think I like this present even more – the mascara and highlighter are top notch. I actually prefer the sample sizes for both traveling and precision purposes.  And best of all, it’s completely free. Check out more photos and details on how to get yours below.

Watt’s Up is a champagne cream-to-powder highlighter stick. It’s more subtle and neutral-toned than the very pink High Beam. I’ll do a swatch of my many liquid, cream, and powder highlighters in a future post – that’ll give you a good sense of how they differ.

Check out Benefit They're Real's mascara wand
A spiky, intimidating wand

Benefit’s They’re Real mascara is my current favorite mascara. It’s one of the blackest formulas I’ve ever used, and it never flakes or smudges. The spiked tip reminds me of Givenchy’s  Phenomen’Eyes Mascara unusual spherical design. The problem with Givenchy’s mascara was it’s tricky application, and They’re Real solves that flaw by adding the spiked tip to a rubber brush. I actually prefer mascara samples to the real deals for two reasons: 1) you’re supposed to change mascara every 3 months and 2) you have a lot more precision with a short wand. It’s like choking a baseball bat for more control.

One word about the mascara: the rubber of the brush is really firm, so if you try to get really close to the root it can feel a little rough. Because my eyelashes have black roots, I solve that problem by always using liner along with mascara. If you have especially sensitive eyes and skin, this might not be the mascara for you.

But the great news is that you don’t need to waste any money finding out whether you like it or not. All you need to do is be registered as a Sephora VIB, and go to the counter during your birthday month and show an ID with your date of birth. Don’t miss out on this awesome free deal!
